New Anthems I is the first of a series of interactive installations commissioned by the Judith Wright Centre for Contemporary Arts. By inserting words via SMS into iconic Australian texts, participants can play with expressions of national identity.

The series of custom designed typographic sculptures are produced from materials such as neon, fibre optics, LED displays, recycled cardboard and timber. This installation quoted the opening line from Australia’s official national anthem.

The inaugral installation quoted the opening line from the official national anthem, Advance Australia Fair: “Australians all let us rejoice for we are young and free”.
